Three non-Realtors received recognition for special achievement during 2008 at SKCAR’s annual awards and installation banquet, held this year at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue. The trio of award recipients included Marge Bearman, Elizabeth Rhodes and Jillayne Schlicke.
Marge Bearman of Choice Lending, Inc. in Bellevue was named Affiliate of the Year. The award is presented to non-Realtors who demonstrate a commitment to the association’s goals and who work to fulfill its mission to foster cooperation within the industry. Besides serving on SKCAR’s membership committee, Bearman helped lead efforts to present real estate events focused on various consumer needs, including a Housing Fair for King County employees. In 2009, she will serve as Affiliate Director on the association’s board.

Elizabeth Rhodes, who retired from The Seattle Times in December after serving as the residential real estate reporter for more than a dozen years, received the Media of the Year award. In part, the award recognizes “excellence and impartial reporting on real estate matters,” with Rhodes singled out for her “straightforward and thoughtful coverage” during a Seattle Times career that spanned 30 years.

During 2008, Watabe served as president of the Washington Chapter of the Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA) and as the liaison to Japanese real estate for the president of the National Association of REALTORS. Among Watabe’s priorities as president of SKCAR, he has advocated for representation of the Asian, Hispanic and Women’s Councils on the association’s board.
